Royal Mint honours singer Elton John with commemorative coin
LONDON (UK) – UK’s Royal Mint paid tribute to Elton John on Monday by bringing out a commemorative coin. The British singer-lyricist is the second artist to be honoured in such a manner.
Designed by artist Bradley Morgan Johnson, the coin shows John’s trademark straw boater’s hat, and his glasses have been fashioned out of musical notes.
“It really is a fabulous honour to be recognised in this way,” the 73-year-old artist said.
“The last few years have contained some of the most memorable moments of my career, and this is another truly humbling milestone on my journey.”
John, who was knighted in 1998, has sold more than 250 million records, with hits like “Candle in the Wind”, “Your Song” and “Bennie and the Jets”.
He was forced to postpone a farewell tour because of the pandemic crisis.
