WASHINGTON (US) – US Representative Rodney Davis said on Wednesday that he has tested positive for COVID-19. This makes him the 15th lawmaker in the country to be infected.
A Republican of Illinois, Davis said he underwent a test after running a fever on Wednesday morning. He said his office was contacting people whom he had met in the past 48 hours, adding that all his public events stood cancelled until he tested negative.
“If you’re out in public, use social distancing, and when you can’t social distance, please wear a mask. All of us must do our part. That’s what it will take to get through this pandemic,” said the 50-year-old.
Seven Republicans and the same number of Democrats of the House of Representatives have tested positive or were presumed to have had COVID-19 since the pandemic broke out.
Republican Representative Louie Gohmert, who was adamant not to wear a mask, said he was infected a week ago, leading to three of his colleagues to go into self-quarantine.
