Princess Beatrice wore queen’s tiara for her wedding, says Buckingham Palace
LONDON (UK) – Buckingham Palace has released more details of the quiet, private wedding ceremony of Princess Beatrice this week. As per the details, she wore the tiara of her grandmother Queen Elizabeth. The ceremony was toned down because of the pandemic.
Beatrice, 31, married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi on Friday at Windsor Castle in a ceremony bereft of the usual pomp and fanfare. She is the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York.
Though they had plans to wed in May, the lockdown forced them to postpone it.
The 94-year-old monarch and her husband Prince Philip, 99, were among the few guests who attended. Since July 4, wedding ceremonies have been allowed in England and guests have been limited to 30.
There were media reports that the “secret” wedding would probably have been the first time that the queen had seen her second son Andrew, 60, since his friend Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested in the United States.
Maxwell is accused of luring young girls for late US financier Jeffrey Epstein who sexually abused them. She denies the accusations. US prosecutors want to question Andrew about his contacts with Epstein. They say that he has evaded their requests, an allegation he rejects.
Beatrice, who is ninth in line to the throne, was dressed in a vintage ivory dress made by Norman Hartnell and wore the Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara which was loaned to her for the day, said the palace.
Elizabeth wore the tiara, which was fashioned from a diamond necklace given to Queen Victoria for her wedding, when she married Philip in 1947.
“Working within government guidelines, the service was in keeping with the unique circumstances while enabling them to celebrate their wedding with their closest family,” Buckingham Palace said.
“No hymns were sung, but a selection of music was played. The National Anthem was played but not sung.”
