MEXICO CITY (World) – Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Mexican President, announced that coronavirus could cost the country up to a million jobs as most industries considered not essential are still closed.
Mexico’s economy was already in recession pre-coronavirus and different investment banks forecast contractions of up to 9% in 2020 with only a gradual recovery next year.
“My prediction is that with coronavirus, a million jobs will be lost. But we will create two million new jobs.”
– Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Mexican President
Obrador’s government stated that they had the outbreak under control but have posted record numbers for new coronavirus cases and deaths.
