LONDON (UK) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had been admitted to the hospital for tests on Sunday.
Johnson has had persistent coronavirus symptoms even 10 days after testing positive for the virus. Downing Street reassured the public that he remained in charge of the government.
Johnson was isolating in Downing Street after testing positive last month. He still had a high temperature and his doctors felt he should get hospitalised for tests as a “precautionary step”.
“This is a precautionary step, as the prime minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus ten days after testing positive for the virus,” the statement added.
The hospitalisation news came only after an hour after Queen Elizabeth addressed the British public saying they would overcome the coronavirus outbreak by staying resolute.
55-year-old Johnson became the first leader of a major power to announce that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.
This was not an emergency admission and Johnson remained in charge of the government. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab shall be chairing Monday’s emergency COVID-19 meeting.
