PARIS (FRANCE) – Police have banned a planned demonstration in Paris named the “Yellow Vests” anti-government movement this weekend. It was banned citing reasons that it could lead in public disorder.
In a statement on Thursday, police said they were also banning the “Yellow Vests” from forming groups in parts of the capital such as the Champs-Elysees, the parliament building and Notre-Dame Cathedral.
Messages from protesters on social media have been abuzz urging people to assemble in Paris this Saturday for a demonstration.
The protests derive their name from the yellow high visibility jackets French drivers should have in their cars and were worn by demonstrators. Outcry had begun in November 2018 against rise in fuel tax.
Those taxes were subsequently cut down, however, the movement has intensified into a bigger anti-government protest.
