OSLO (NORWAY) – Norwegian oil giant Equinor on Wednesday revealed its plan to construct a plant to produce hydrogen from natural gas in Britain. It will combine carbon capture and storage as well.
Equinor said the proposed plant, said to be the largest of its kind in the world, targets CO2 reduction by nearly 900,000 tonnes each year by switching gas with hydrogen at the Saltend Chemicals Park in Hull.
“With our partners, we plan to transform the UK’s largest industrial cluster into its greenest cluster,” said an Equinor statement.
The final investment decision for the project named H2H Saltend is expected in 2023 and production is slated to begin three years later. The Norwegian firm, however, did not reveal the cost of the project. Equinor did not say how much the project could cost.
