MINSK (BELARUS) – Nobel laureate author Svetlana Alexievich, a prominent opposition figure, has set out for a trip to Germany. Her aide told on Monday that her departure has no connection to politics and she plans to return.
Alexievich is a senior member of the Belarusian opposition Coordination Council targeted by the authorities in Belarus as mass protests against veteran leader Alexander Lukashenko continue.
Alexievich has travelled to Germany for medical treatment and for work reasons, her aide said.
