LONDON (UK) – After sustaining a hamstring injury in Friday’s 2-0 rout by Southampton, Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson will have to undergo a scan, said manager Steve Bruce.
Wilson is the club’s top scorer of the season after he netted six goals in eight Premier League matches. After sustaining an injury, he limped off from the field before full-time and had to be replaced by Andy Carroll.
“It’s a hamstring injury and we don’t know how bad it is yet,” Bruce said. “He needs a scan. We hope that it’s not too bad but we’ll see.”
Winger Ryan Fraser could not play against Southampton because of the same injury and will be on the sidelines for an extended period.
“Unfortunately, he came into the treatment room and wasn’t happy. We scanned it and revealed a small tear. He won’t make the internationals (for Scotland),” Bruce added.
Eleventh in the Premier League, Newcastle will play Chelsea on Nov. 21 on their return to action after the international break.
