LONDON (UK) – Mayors in the UK will be provided more control to exercise, with a coronavirus test-and-trace system as the national government prepares for tough new lockdown rules, due on Monday, The Sunday Times newspaper reported.
The mayors will be able to employ new local volunteers to check on every household and ask people to self-isolate, the newspaper said. It was added that the plan’s details would apply to areas between Downing Street and the mayors.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson will make a statement to parliament on Monday about new lockdown restrictions.
Leaders of major cities in northern England had urged for more generous economic support for workers and businesses facing local lockdowns.
