Juventus fire coach Sarri after Champions League exit

ROME (ITALY) – Maurizio Sarri, the title-winning coach of Serie A club Juventus, has been sacked. This comes after the team’s elimination from the Champions League in the round of 16 on Friday, said the club.

The 61-year-old was shown the door although he led the club to the Serie A title two weeks ago, which is their ninth in a row.

Juventus had to unceremoniously leave the Champions League on away goals by Olympique Lyonnais.

“Juventus Football Club announces that Maurizio Sarri has been relieved of his post as coach of the First Team,” the club announced on its website.

“The club would like to thank the coach for having written a new page in Juventus’ history with the victory of the ninth-consecutive championship, the culmination of a personal journey that led him to climb all the divisions of Italian football,” it added.
