LONDON (UK) – Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce on Monday that Britain has set a deadline of Oct. 15 to strike a free-trade agreement with the EU and if it does not materialise, then both sides should accept that and move on.
The stalled negotiations are slated to resume in London on Tuesday.
According to French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves le Drian, an agreement has to be reached at the earliest and he blamed the UK’s attitude for the stalemate.
“If we can’t agree by then, then I do not see that there will be a free trade agreement between us, and we should both accept that and move on,” Johnson is slated to say, said his office.
The prime minister will announce that if no deal is reached, the country will have a trade relationship with the EU similar to that of Australia’s and it will be a good outcome.
“As a government we are preparing, at our borders and at our ports, to be ready for it,” he will say. “We will have full control over our laws, our rules, and our fishing waters.”
