MUMBAI (INDIA) – Amazon.com’s local unit in India and Walmart’s Flipkart were warned by the federal govenment that sellers on their platforms are not following a rule that mandates a product’s country of origin be specified.
There has been a push to enforce the rule strictly following the border tensions between India and China and it is part of New Delhi’s efforts to slash Chinese imports.
Both e-commerce companies have been given 15 days to give an explanation regarding the lapses or they will face action, according to a letter from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs addressed to both firms.
