DUBAI – Traditional Hungarian folk music with a unique rock and roll twist has been brought to the Expo 2020 Dubai by the Kerekes Band during their first-ever live UAE performance.
Playing their unique brand of Ethno-Funk, they performed a range of tunes from their oldest song, Medina, to one of their most popular, Csángó Boogie, on the Expo Sea Stage. A dancer showcased a traditional folk routine during their set.
Kerekes have performed in 29 other countries over the last two decades. For the band’s lead player,Zsombor Fehér, the concerts have an added significance: “When I was a child, I collected stamps. And I only collected United Arab Emirates’ stamps. So, I know all the Emirates: Sharjah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, Dubai. I have more than one thousand stamps from here.”
“This is my first time in Dubai and it is a very good feeling for me to play here. Kerekes have been going for 26 years and this is the thirtieth country we have visited. We have played in countries from Jamaica to Kazakhstan to Sweden to Japan,” Fehér added
