On Thursday, Josh Stone sued Ariana Grande and over half a dozen songwriters for copyright infringement. The hip-hop artist claims that Grande’s 2019 Grammy-nominated single “7 Rings” was a copy of a song he recorded 2 years ago.
Josh Stone performs under the moniker DOT and his lawsuit claims that Grande’s hit song copied his “You Need It, I Got It”.
In the court papers, Stone’s attorneys demonstrate that ‘7 rings’ copied ‘I Got It’ with clarity and conviction. This was done with comparative beat, lyric, hook, rhythmic structure, metrical placement and narrative context analysis by experts in musicology or everyday listeners.
Grande’s representatives did not respond to a request for comment.
