LONDON (UK) – The health minister on Friday said the pandemic was surging across the country with hospital admissions doubling every eight days. However, he did not mention if yet another lockdown would be imposed next month.
The country has the fifth largest COVID fatalities tally after the US, Brazil, India and Mexico, according to data from Johns Hopkins University of Medicine.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that a lockdown was only final option and that the government would do all it can to stop the spread of the pandemic.
“The number of people in hospital is doubling every eight days or so … we will do what it takes to keep people safe,” Hancock said. “We keep these things under review.”
Infections began to surge in the country in September with as many as 3,000 to 4,000 people testing positive everyday last week. It is way behind the tally in France, which records more than 10,000 cases a day.
There were 12 fatalities on Thursday from the virus taking the national count to 41,705.
