LONDON- Ex British Prime Minister David Cameron rejected a job offer from the government to lead a major United Nations climate summit to take place in November.
The COP26 summit in Glasgow to combat global warming is a moment of truth for the 2015 Paris Agreement. Britain shall be responsible to persuade major powers to agree to emissions cuts more ambitious than what’s already in place.
Cameron took it as a great honour to be asked to do the job and was grateful to be asked. Cameron, who served as British PM from 2010 to 2016, said that a government minister would be more suited to do the job than him. His reason was that having one line of command instead of two people doing the same thing made more sense.
Summit head Clare O’Neill was sacked by PM Boris Johnson last week on account of showing lack of leadership and engagement.
