NEW DELHI (INDIA) – Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, died on Monday after being hospitalised for weeks, said the office of the present president. He had tested positive for coronavirus earlier this month.
A seasoned politician who served as finance and foreign minister in various governments, Mukherjee slipped into a coma and was placed on ventilator support after developing a lung infection.
“His demise is passing of an era,” tweeted the office of President Ram Nath Kovind.
The former president had tested positive for COVID-19 on August 10.
