BANGKOK (Asia) – On Friday, Thailand reported eight new coronavirus cases but no deaths.
This brings up the total to 3,000 cases and 55 deaths since January when the outbreak first began.
Of the new coronavirus cases, three are from Yala where aggressive testing of the population is ongoing due to high infection rates, according to Taweesin Wisanuyothin, spokesman for the government’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration.
The other five new cases are migrants detained at an immigration detention centre in Songkhla province. The centre had 60 other coronavirus cases in the past two weeks.
Slowing coronavirus case numbers prompted Thailand to cautiously allow some businesses this week to reopen after weeks of semi-lockdown.
