Daily new coronavirus cases cross 6,000 in Ukraine
KYIV (UKRAINE) – The national security council of Ukraine said on Saturday the country registered a record 6,410 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, up from an earlier record of 5,992 on Friday.
As many as 109 patients succumbed to the virus over the past 24 hours, the highest daily toll since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said on Saturday that the daily number of hospital admissions has jumped to 1,089 from 800-900 in previous days.
The ministry said that there are plans to bring in medicos to help doctors posted in COVID hospitals where 23,000 beds are already occupied.
“We have a rather tense situation with the number of people who are hospitalised … and it is clear that we are increasing the workload on our doctors,” said Stepanov.
As of October 17, as many as 293,641 cases were registered in the country with the death toll at 5,517.
