PRAGUE (CZECH REPUBLIC) – As many as 11,984 new infections were reported in the Czech Republic on Oct. 20, the highest daily number so far. This comes as the country struggles to stem the surge in the number of cases.
Data from the Health Ministry showed on Wednesday that the number of coronavirus fatalities rose to 1,619 from 1,513 over the past 24 hours.
The government will convene an extraordinary session at 8:00 am local time (0600 GMT) to discuss the situation. On Tuesday, Health Minister Roman Prymula had said that tougher anti-epidemic measures would be considered.
