COVID-19: Indian movie icon Amitabh Bachchan, son in stable condition
MUMBAI (INDIA) – Amitabh Bachchan, India’s most famous movie star, and his son Abhishek, are in a stable condition after they tested positive for the coronavirus infection, said government health authorities on Sunday.
The veteran star tweeted on Saturday night that he had tested positive for the highly infectious virus. Within minutes, his actor son Abhishek Bachchan, 44, tweeted that he had also tested positive.
The 77-year-old actor and his son were shifted to the Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai although they only showed mild symptoms. They appealed to their fans to stay calm.
A hospital official said on Sunday that the father and son were in a stable condition. Reports of the condition of Amitabh Bachchan’s wife Jaya and Abhishek’s wife Aishwarya, are awaited.
Civic authorities undertook a massive sanitising drill at Bachchan’s upscale residence by spraying disinfectant in the large compound and on cars parked there.
Amitabh Bachchan has been a prominent personality in the fight against the coronavirus by appearing in public service advertisements in which he urges people to wear a mask, wash hands frequently and maintain social distance.
