Coronavirus fatalities in Ukraine could reach 4,000: Officials

KYIV (UKRAINE) – According to Ukrainian health officials, the pandemic could bring the death toll in the nation to 4,000, more than double the current fatalities, said Interfax Ukraine.

As on July 29, the country recorded 1,197 new coronavirus cases and a record number of hospital admissions. Health officials blame the spurt in the number of cases on use of public transport and attendance in church services.

The only way to halt the spread of the virus are preventive measures, said Deputy Health Minister Viktor Lyashko.

People still have to wear masks and stick to social distancing rules in restaurants and public places, although the government announced last week that individual regions will be allowed to ease curbs if wanted.

Ukraine on Saturday recorded 1,172 new coronavirus cases against 1,090 a day earlier.

The country has 71,056 cases since the start of the outbreak, and has recorded 1,709 deaths and 39,308 cases of recovery.
