Coronavirus cases in India cross 200,000 with peak weeks away

NEW DELHI (Asia) – The coronavirus case numbers in India crossed 200,000, according to the country’s health ministry on Wednesday.

The peak of the virus in India could still be weeks away.

8,909 new cases have been reported over the previous day in one of the highest single-day spikes in India. This takes the total to 2,07,615.

Six other nations, from the U.S. to Britain and Brazil, have a higher caseload.

“We are very far away for the peak.”

– Dr Nivedita Gupta, Indian Council of Medical Research

Government officials anticipate the peak later this month, or even July before there is a drop in case numbers.

The coronavirus death toll in India stood at 5,815.
