COPENHAGEN- Denmark’s daily Jyllands-Posten published a cartoon of the Chinese flag with coronavirus particles replacing its five yellow stars. The China Embassy in Denmark has demanded an apology for publishing the image.
The embassy said that the daily, along with artist Niels Bo Bojesen must apologise to Chinese people for the image titled “Coronavirus” published on the paper on Monday’s issue.
The embassy believes that the cartoon has crossed a civilised society’s bottom line and free speech ethical boundaries. It is offensive to human conscience and devoid of sympathy and empathy.
Jyllands-Posten was all over the news in 2005 over a satirical drawing of the Prophet Mohammed, creating an outrage amongst Muslims.
The daily’s Editor-in-Chief Jacob Nybroe said that the paper was not making fun of China’s situation but refused to issue an apology.
Nybroe does not want to apologise for something that they do not believe to be wrong and they had no intention of mocking or demeaning the China situation and do not believe that the drawing does that.
