LONDON (UK) – Spinner Dom Bess found a place in England’s 13-man squad to play the first test against West Indies. Moeen Ali did not find a place among nine reserves, said the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Saturday.
England will be led by all-rounder Ben Stokes in the match to be held at the Ageas Bowl Southampton on Wednesday in a safe environment.
After losing out on a central bid for the longest format, Moeen said in September he was taking a break from test matches. But he was included in a 30-man training group.
Spinner Jack Leach is part of the reserves for the first game. All-rounder Sam Curran, who was given permission to resume training after testing negative for COVID-19, was also placed on stand-by.
The second and third matches will take place in Manchester.
England squad: Ben Stokes (captain), James Anderson, Jofra Archer, Dominic Bess, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Zak Crawley, Joe Denly, Ollie Pope, Dom Sibley, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
Reserves: James Bracey, Sam Curran, Ben Foakes, Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Saqib Mahmood, Craig Overton, Ollie Robinson, Olly Stone.
