BRUSSELS (Europe News) – Belgium coronavirus lockdown will continue for a minimum of the next eight weeks, according to the health minister Maggie De Block.
Starting March 17, Belgians could only leave home to purchase food or to run health-related errands and to assist someone in need. Schools and universities are shut down and companies have instructed their employees to work from home.
A prohibition of non-essential travel abroad is in place until April 5 with all gatherings banned and police patrolling the streets to monitor and enforce restrictions.
“That’s the million dollar question! We are now heading towards the peak of the epidemic, after which the curve will descend. I think this situation will last for at least another eight weeks. It would be the normal curve.”
– Maggie De Block, Belgium’s Health Minister when asked on when the situation will end
This estimate, De Block says is based on what happened in China and South Korea.
