TAIPEI (TAIWAN) – The tourism department of Taiwan has cancelled an annual New Year celebration at the northeast corner of the island following reports of the first locally transmitted coronavirus case since April 12.
The event involves watching the sunrise on the first day of the year. However, it has been cancelled in the coastal town of Fulong.
Some of the other events such as fireworks in Taipei are taking place as scheduled although masks have been made mandatory for those attending the function.
So far, the island has recorded as many as 777 cases and most of them are imported apart from seven fatalities.
