AKSF SIGNS MOU WITH AIRPORT AUTHORITY OF INDIA FOR A GREEN TOMORROW

Rameshwaram : As part of Green Movement launched by Dr APJ Adbul Kalam Social Forest (AKSF), under the aegis of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam International foundation (AKIF), signed an MOU with Airport Authority of India for planting trees across airports in the southern region. The plantation drive is part of one of the goals “ Billion trees for Billion People” put forth by AKIF under its “India Vision 2020”.

The prime objective of this plantation drive is to protect the environment and create a sustainable balance. To achieve a sustainable environment in future, AKSF scheme plans to plant more than 1 crore saplings in all the 33 districts of Tamil Nadu, along with all the airports across the southern region. Nurseries will be set up all across the state, and the sapling would be given to people free of cost. Through a detailed study to replenish a green cover, awareness would be spread across the districts and airports to educate the beneficiaries on the significance of growing trees, protecting the environment and also about the employment that would be generated as part of this project. Vels University in Chennai would sponsor the massive plantation drive.

Airport Authority Of India has agreed to sponsor a campaign vehicle to spread awareness and encourage the public to endorse this project by showing them their responsibility towards conserving the environment. The vehicle would endorse video bytes by notable ambassadors of the plantation campaign. For better understanding, it would also exhibit books authored by DR APJ Abdul Kalam which would be available to the public. As part of the campaign, the primary focus would be on educating the people of the current environmental aspect of the state, and the changes plantation drive could bring.

To monitor the plantation drive, an app has been introduced where beneficiaries would be obliged to update their efforts. In return, they would be awarded for the efforts put forth. It would make it easier to locate the nearby nurseries for obtaining the sapling and would help to educate the users of a sustainable way of planting the sapling.

The plantation drive would be executed and managed by Mr APJMJ Sheikh Saleem, Managing Trustee of AKIF. The formal launch of AKSF Green Movement was made by Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu Mr Banwarilal Purohit on 28th March 2019.  The Airports in the Kerala region would be under Mr Sunil Kumar, Chairman of AKIF Kerala chapter and Mr Ansif Ashraf, Secretary General of AKIF Kerala Chapter.
