Africa in the spotlight as experts prepare to discuss climate change and disaster risk reduction at Expo 2020 Dubai
DUBAI – The African Union will host a press conference on Tuesday ahead of the Spotlight on Africa: Disaster Risk Reduction programme to be held at the Terra Pavilion on 13 October.
The press conference will be attended by Dr. Levi Uche Madueke, AU Expo Commissioner General; H.E. Josefa Leonel Correia Sacko, Commissioner, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment, AU Commission; Mami Mizutori, Special Representative of the Secretary General for Disaster Risk Reduction and Head of UNDRR; andIbrahima Cheikh Diong, UN Assistant Secretary General and Director General of the African Risk Capacity Group.
The press conference will be moderated by Wynne Musabayana, Head of Communication, AU Commission.
Millions of Africans have been affected by disasters such as floods, droughts, storms, extreme temperatures, earthquakes, landslides, wildfire and volcanic activity. The event aims to showcase Africa’s efforts on disaster risk reduction, with a focus on linking Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems to implement early action through innovative disaster risk financing.
