LONDON (UK) – Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Sunday that he did not wish for the Brexit transition period to come to an end without a new trade pact in place, adding that the country could live with such an outcome.
Intense discussions are taking place between the UK and the EU as the Brexit transition period comes to a close on December 31. The prime minister said a deal had to be struck but there were difficult issues that need to be ironed out.
When Johnson was asked during a BBC television interview whether he was bothered about the impact of a no-deal situation in the middle of the pandemic, he said, “I don’t want the Australian WTO-type outcome particularly, but we can more than live with it.”
