Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce a very limited easing of Britain’s coronavirus lockdown next week, adopting a cautious approach to ensure there is no second peak of infections, his spokesman said on Thursday. Johnson is due to announce the next steps in Britain’s battle to tackle the novel coronavirus on Sunday following a review by ministers of the current measures that have all but shut the economy and kept millions at home. At a cabinet meeting of his top ministers, Johnson said Britain would advance “with maximum caution” and be guided by the science and data when considering whether any of the strict social distancing measures could be eased.
Black people and people from Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani ethnicity have a significantly higher chance of COVID-19 deaths than white people, according to the British statistics office on Thursday.
Also, Extinction Rebellion group’s climate activists sprayed “fake oil” onto the Barclays headquarters in Canary Wharf in London on Thursday, calling on Barclay’s to divest from fossil fuels. The biodegradable and vegan “oil” was sprayed onto Barclays by Extinction Rebellion. During the protest, Extinction Rebellion activists were social distancing in accordance with coronavirus guidelines.
LG Polymers plant chemical gas leak in southern India on Thursday killed at least nine people, and over 120 people have been admitted to the hospital. Over 120 villagers were taken to hospitals with three surrounding villages currently being evacuated. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) requested citizens in the plant’s vicinity to remain indoors.
