SAO PAULO – Brazil’s soccer legend Pele is in depression owing to his failing health and is reluctant to get out of the house as he is unable to walk without aid, said his son Edinho in an interview.
Pele, one of history’s greatest footballers, turns 80 in October and has been suffering from hip trouble and can now walk only with a frame. Most of his appearances in recent times have been in a wheelchair.
His son said that he is very fragile and after the hip replacement, he didn’t get ideal rehabilitation as he had not done physiotherapy post-surgery. After this, he has had an issue with mobility setting off depression. Pele was always the King, an imposing figure and now he is unable to walk properly.
His son added that he has become reclusive and does not want to leave the house or seen out.
Pele was the only player to win three World Cups and he spent most of his career with Santos before moving to New York Cosmos.
