LONDON- On Friday, after spending many days observing the maternity unit in a hospital, Kate Middleton has written an open letter to express gratitude to British midwives calling the work they do humbling and crucial.
The 37-year-old Duchess of Cambridge, wife of Prince William and mother of George (6), Charlotte (4) and Louis (1) spent some time last month in southwest London’s Kingston hospital, mirroring movements of midwives on daily rounds and accompanying them on home visits.
During her visit, she also attended clinics and post-natal wards.
She applauded the compassion the midwives displayed and the entire profession’s incredible work ethic. She stated that midwives are there for women who are at their most vulnerable and that they, on a daily basis, witness pain, strength and joy first-hand.
In her letter, she noted that the WHO has designated 2020 as the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife” to honour Florence Nightingale’s 200th birth anniversary.
