Australian-born marathon runner Mina Guli’s raison d’être is simple, “I run for every person that uses water.”
She holds a place on Fortune’s list of the 50 greatest leaders in the world- and for good reason. One of Guli’s most noteworthy achievements was completing 40 marathons in 40 days of running across 6 continents.
A decade ago, she began her non-profit Thirst. Since then, she has been instrumental in bringing the world’s attention onto the global water crisis. Guli, most recently, is leading the #WorldRiverRun which is a 5-day long global event which commenced on Global Running Day (June 1st) and concludes on World Environment Day (June 5th). Participants world over are invited to register an interest and dedicate their walks or runs to a river of their choosing. These three impactful statements from her campaign are sure to get you up and running:
- I will run for rivers because they run for me
- Rivers are for otters, not trash
- We have always needed rivers. Now, rivers need us
This is just a glimpse into what one could expect from the sharepack available on her website. Upon participation, no matter where in the world you are, you also receive a bib and a certification of completion at the end!
This phenomenal woman’s story is one of redefining limits set by others, defying odds, fuelling passion and finding power in becoming a powerhouse to solve the global water crisis. She has faith that with the unity of people all over the world and building a community of global water activists, it is entirely possible to make a difference and address the impending crisis.
Mina Guli is the mighty pebble that sets off the ripples of impact to save water- running far, wide and deep.
