The search for Michael Mosley , the missing TV doctor and columnist, has resumed on the Greek island of Symi, two days after his disappearance. Local police reported that officers recommenced their search at around 7am on Friday, following a pause in the search-and-rescue operation on Thursday night.
Police and firefighters have been utilizing drones to locate Mosley, 67, who was last seen heading towards the center of the island for a walk. The rescue mission on Symi, part of the Dodecanese island chain located approximately 25 miles north of Rhodes, will gain more officers. According to the mayor’s office, local residents, a helicopter from Rhodes, Greek officers, and police brought in from other areas are all involved in the search around the Pedi area and its vicinity on Friday morning.
According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, hot weather will hit the area where Mosley, a father of four, went missing, with temperatures forecast to reach 36C on Friday. A yellow weather warning for high temperatures covers Rhodes and surrounding islands, including Symi.
Rescue operation
The rescue operation focuses on the Pedi area of the island after a woman reported seeing Mosley, who popularized the 5:2 diet and appears on The One Show and This Morning, there on Wednesday.
The mayor of Symi, Eleftherios Papakalodoukas, mentioned that firefighters believe Mosley could not still be in that area. “It is a very small, controlled area, full of people. So, if something happened to him there, we would have found him by now,” he told the BBC.
A local Facebook group mentioned that Michael Mosley arrived on the island on Tuesday with his wife, Clare Bailey Mosley, who is also a doctor, author, and health columnist. He went for a walk from Saint Nikolas Beach at about 1:30 pm Greek time on Wednesday.
The Greek police spokesperson Constantina Dimoglidou told the Daily Mail: “He may have slipped, tripped, or fallen, and a snake may have bitten him, leaving him injured somewhere.” Additionally, he added: “Every potential scenario is open and under investigation.”
Meanwhile, a Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who is missing in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.”
Furthermore, Mosley writes as a columnist for the Daily Mail and has made several films about diet and exercise. Moreover, the broadcaster fronted the Channel 4 show Michael Mosley: Who Made Britain Fat? and also took part in the BBC series Trust Me, I’m a Doctor.
