The 2023 World Gravy Wrestling Champions

In a display of bizarre sporting prowess, the 2023 World Gravy Wrestling Championships unfolded on Bank Holiday Monday at the Rose ‘N’ Bowl pub in Stacksteads. Renowned as one of the quirkiest sporting events globally, this spectacle featured 16 men and eight women vying for glory in a unique competition lasting just two minutes. There participants grappled while drenched in hundreds of liters of gravy.

Runner-Up Honors for Disco Dave

The ultimate victors of this unusual tournament were determined by a panel of four judges. Tasked with evaluating both wrestling skills and fancy dress costumes. In the men’s division, ‘Ravin Gravy,’ also known as Natan Kendall, clinched the title, while ‘The Bacup Bavarian,’ a.k.a. Patina Bury, emerged victorious in the women’s category. The second-place honor went to Disco Dave, famously known as Briam Gumbley.

Funds for a Noble Cause

Participation in the event required a mere £2.50 for adults and £1.50 for children, with the entirety of the proceeds earmarked for the East Lancashire Hospice. Additionally, wrestlers had the opportunity to raise funds for their preferred charitable causes.
