London’s iconic Oxford Street experienced a flurry of activity on Wednesday as authorities responded to a TikTok-generated rumour about planned group crime and disorder. The ensuing developments led to multiple arrests and a heightened police presence. While the issuance of dispersal orders in an effort to manage the situation.
The Metropolitan Police arrested nine individuals in connection with the viral TikTok rumour. That hinted at coordinated criminal activities on Oxford Street. And one person was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.” In a separate incident earlier in the day, two people were arrested in Essex for conspiracy to commit robbery, following social media posts.
Amid circulating TikTok and Snapchat videos and posts, suggesting a group gathering at a store on Oxford Street. The police presence in Oxford Circus was heightened. Nearby establishments, including an optician and pharmacy. Briefly closed their shutters as crowds congregated on the bustling street.
Mayor’s Concern and Call for Caution
The two men, one dressed in a green hoodie and the other in a grey tracksuit, were apprehended by law enforcement before being placed in handcuffs. The situation briefly halted traffic on the bustling street. Moreover, mounted police and security personnel work together to disperse onlookers.
