Ukraine Counteroffensive Sees High Casualties in Battle against Russian Forces, UK Reports

In the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, both nations are experiencing significant military casualties. Ukraine strives to dislodge Kremlin’s forces from occupied territories during the early stages of its counteroffensive. British officials have provided an update on the situation. Revealing that Russian losses are likely at their highest level since the peak of the battle for Bakhmut in March.

According to intelligence reports from British sources, the most intense fighting has been concentrated in Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhia province. Particularly around Bakhmut, and further west in the eastern Donetsk province. While the latest assessment indicates that Ukraine has made some small advances and is on the counteroffensive in these areas. Russian forces have been engaged in relatively effective defensive operations in the country’s south.

Ukrainian Military Reports Extensive Airstrikes and Attacks

The Ukrainian military’s regular update on Sunday morning stated that Russia had conducted 43 airstrikes. Along with four missile strikes, and 51 attacks from multiple rocket launchers in the previous 24 hours. The General Staff’s statement revealed that Russia’s offensive operations in Ukraine’s industrial east remained a primary focus. With Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Marinka, and Lyman in Donetsk province experiencing intense attacks. Moreover, leading to 26 combat clashes.

Tragically, civilian casualties have also occurred as a result of these hostilities. Donetsk regional Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko reported that two civilians were killed, and three others were wounded in the past day. In addition, Russian forces launched airstrikes on other regions in the east and south of Ukraine. Resulting in the death of one civilian and injuries to four others in Kherson province. Zaporizhzhia regional Governor Yurii Malashko confirmed that 20 settlements in the province were hit by Russian attacks. Leading to one person being wounded.
