Russia launched a series of air attacks on Kyiv, mere hours after Zelenskyy congratulated Ukraine’s air defence units. Zelenskyy praised the military for their efforts in saving hundreds of lives by shooting down a barrage of Russian drones and missiles aimed at the city and other areas.

City officials reported that Kyiv’s air defence systems actively engaged and shot down incoming targets in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, air raid sirens blared in various districts.

During the overnight attacks in Kyiv, a high-rise building in the Holosiiv district caught fire. Moreover, resulting in one fatality and three injuries. The cause of the blaze was not immediately clear. But it is often attributed to falling debris from drones being hit and interceptor missiles causing damage on the ground.

“Onslaught!” exclaimed Vitali Klitschko, the Mayor of Kyiv, on the Telegram messaging service. “Remain in shelters.”

Klitschko mentioned that a 27-year-old woman was injured and rushed to the hospital in the southwestern Holosiivskyi region. However, he confirmed that one person had been killed in the latest Russian air raid.

Falling debris caused damage

According to Kyiv’s military administration officials, the air defence systems actively engaged and destroyed incoming munitions. In addition, falling debris caused damage in various parts of the capital. Including the historic Podil and Pecherskyi suburbs.

Residents of a high-rise apartment block were evacuated early Tuesday after falling debris sparked a fire, as reported by Klitschko.

Serhii Popko, the chief of Kyiv’s military administration, stated on the Telegram messaging app that Russia conducted the assault using Iranian-made Shahed drones. That’s with more than 20 of them being shot down.

Tuesday’s attack, marked Russia‘s 17th aerial assault on the city this month. Followed two attacks on Monday. Including a rare daytime strike that prompted residents to seek shelter underground and caused schoolchildren to flee Kyiv’s streets for safety.
