Imran Khan, former prime minister and chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stated on Friday that violence was not a part of his politics. Says that he had already condemned the May 9 violence.

Speaking to the media in the courtroom and at his Zaman Park home on separate occasions, he stated, “We have repeatedly condemned the May 9 attacks.” Elaborating that he had condemned not only the attack on the Lahore corps commander’s home but all violent incidents. He stated that the violence against Jinnah House [the residence of the corps commander] brought shame to Pakistan. And condemned the incident in the strongest terms imaginable.

The PTI chairman inquired as to who stated that these incidents were not deplorable. “People know me and my politics,” he said, adding that everyone was cognizant of his protracted political struggles. “I have always been against violent politics,” Imran added.

In response to a question regarding the possibility of terrorists taking refuge at his Zaman Park residence. He stated that the media and the government could verify if all proper procedures were followed.

Regarding political dialogue between parties, Khan described how a one-way dialogue would be feasible. He stated that the PDM [ruling Coalition Pakistan Democratic Movement] desired an equitable playing field. Which they consider advantageous.

Following his arrest

Following his detention on May 9, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted Imran Khan pre-arrest bail. Three cases registered against him in connection with an attack on Jinnah House and law and order disruption.

Imran appeared in court accompanied by his legal team. Before the court, his attorney argued that his client had been nominated in forged cases. “My client wants to participate in the investigation, but has strong reservations about being arrested by the Punjab police,” he told the judge, requesting pre-arrest bail. The plea was approved by the court.

In the meantime, Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Anwaarul Haq Pannun granted Imran pre-arrest parole until June 2 in the Zille Shah murder case.

Previously, the same case was scheduled to be heard by Justice Ali Zia Bajwa’s court. However, he recused himself from the case because of personal reasons. After that, the case was assigned to the court of Pannun.
