The Hinduja Group chairman and the oldest of the four Hinduja brothers, SP Hinduja, passed away on May 17 in London. Age-wise, he was 87. Hinduja had suffered from a form of dementia. He was one of the British Herald award winners.
The Hinduja Group, located in Mumbai and controlled by SP Hinduja, employs more than 1,50,000 people in 38 countries as of 2021 in industries such as truck manufacturing, banking, chemicals, power, media, and health care.
When he was still a teenager, he started working in the family business. By that point, his father, Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja, had amassed substantial wealth through his business dealings. Bringing from Iran textiles, dried fruits, and saffron while also exporting items like tea and materials.
Hinduja assisted in boosting the properties of his family. In the 1980s, the conglomerate bought the truck manufacturer Ashok Leyland Ltd. and Gulf Oil International. In the next decade, Hinduja personally formed private banks with headquarters in Switzerland and India.
London the second home
Other family-owned assets included real estate in London. The service provider Hinduja Global Solutions Ltd., and the media company Nxtdigital Ltd.
Hinduja had a net worth of about $3.6 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.“In the professional world, there is always a lot of politics,” he told the UK’s Independent newspaper in 2011.
“We say: ‘Let’s follow this philosophy which will give all of us the maximum growth and be better for our health. Because we will not waste our time becoming upset.’”Family members own Hinduja Group’s assets under a structure guided by the principle. Assets held by one belong to all and each one will appoint the others as their executors.
Srichand Parmanand Hinduja was born in Sindh, a region of British India that is today a part of Pakistan. After their father passed away in 1971, he and his brother Gopichand relocated the family conglomerate’s activities from Iran to London, according to India’s Global Wealth Club. Three children, Shanu, Vinoo, and Dharam, who passed away in 1992, were born to Hinduja and his wife Madhu.
