Novak Djokovic, the current world number one in tennis, will be able to participate in the upcoming US Open as the US government has announced the end of Covid-19 vaccination requirements for international travellers on May 11th.
Djokovic, who has chosen not to receive a vaccine against Covid-19, was unable to compete in the US Open last year due to his vaccination status.
As a result, the 35-year-old Serbian athlete was also unable to enter the US to play at the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments this year. However, with the new announcement from the US government, Djokovic will now be able to participate in the US Open without the need for vaccination.
Djokovic missed last year’s Australian Open and was deported from the country due to his vaccine status. He said he would skip Grand Slams rather than have a Covid shot.
He has won three of his 22 major titles at the US Open. The hardcourt Grand Slam will be held from 28 August and 10 September this year.
