Multiple sources are reporting that Paris Saint-Germain’s relationship with Lionel Messi is souring, and it seems increasingly unlikely that he will remain in France. If these reports are true, it appears that FC Barcelona is the clear favorite to sign him.
RMC Sport reports that “unless the situation changes, Messi will leave Paris.” While there was once a general agreement on a contract extension, Messi has yet to sign on the dotted line.
As time has gone on, the relationship has become strained, and Messi’s flirting with Barcelona has led PSG to de-prioritize the renewal. This means that, for the moment, PSG is not working as hard to keep him. However, even if they were to prioritize the extension once again, there is no guarantee that Messi would agree to stay.
FootMercato reports that “Messi already sees himself returning to Catalonia.”
Lionel Messi’s relationship with Christophe Galtier
Lionel Messi’s relationship with his manager, Christophe Galtier, has become strained. Additionally, he has not appreciated the way that some PSG supporters – although a minority – single him out when the team does not perform well in European matches.
Messi’s family wants to return to Barcelona, where they feel at home. The player himself appears willing to reject larger offers in order to play for Barcelona. This is particularly significant given Barcelona’s financial crisis, which has made it difficult for the team to comply with La Liga’s strict Financial Fair Play and salary cap regulations.
There are no strong rumors linking Lionel Messi to another European club besides Barcelona and PSG. Nevertheless, the current FIFA World Cup Golden Ball winner and FIFA The Best winner, who is also the favorite for the Ballon d’Or, does not currently envision himself playing outside of the top five leagues.
