This album is a continuation from old to new, the music was changing during the early eighties. This is my favorite dpwnload to my dad’s old eight track and win. I like all the songs, but my favorite is the Phenix horn hitting Lady Sun. Maurice White!!! Of course the hit let’s groove, but every song is a hit!!! I searched high and low, even looking for it on an import CD, but couldn’t find it This CD has that same version.

All too much for a poor 16 year old white boy i’m afraid. Apologies for my further digression but I just want you to know the power of this music. A force for good and something a little bit off-planet about it. Plenty of worthwhile extra tracks my favorite being an instrumental LG. Raise showed a movement of the EWF sound to more electronica and also a more heavy guitar sound. The returning Roland Bautista was responsible for the latter, though this had been happening since’ Rock That!
The lead single was a smash and perhaps their last big hit. The remix as part of the bonus tracks has a great piece of syncopated keyboards with the horn rifts.
I’ve been after it for years and glad I have it, along with the full version of ‘Kalimba Tree’. There is an improvement in clarity and bass extension compared to my old CD, though it seems this version is difficult to find at a good price anyway. Perhaps they were past their zenith by this point, Reagan’s America now exerting a bigger, less subtle and less spiritual influence.
Still a good album for EWF fans. My review is for the reissue. The reissue has more single versions of tracks on. I probably won’t buy it but if anyone has any thoughts on whether there is a further improvement in sound I’d be interested. Love Earth, Wind and Fire. All their albums get you in a good mood, especially this one with its iconic cover.
