DUBAI – A traditional ‘Kapa haka’ – an age-old tradition of song, dance and chanting – is performed by Ngāti Koraha, a UAE-based cultural group at Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre, Expo 2020 Dubai.
New Zealand’s participation at Expo 2020 reflects the Māori value of kaitiakitanga, or ‘Care for People and Place’ and emphasises the deep kinship between people and the environment. The Kapa haka, which translates to ‘group dance’, aims to create meaningful connections with other nations and people.
Kylie Archer, Deputy Commissioner General of the New Zealand Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “We want to demonstrate our pavilion theme. We want to showcase our indigenous culture to the world, and the Expo 2020 is an excellent platform.
“It’s an important part of our identity that is why we keep it alive.”
The performance will be repeated on Monday, 4 October, at 1600 on the Jubilee Stage.
