COPENHAGEN (DENMARK) – The second day of EURO 2020 saw an unfortunate turn of events when Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on field. The match was suspended shortly before half time due to the incident.
Eriksen fell flat on his face as he went to gather the ball by the sidelines for a throw in. Referee Anthony Taylor immediately called the medical team, who performed CPR on the pitch to resuscitate the stricken player. The visibly upset players formed a human wall to protect his privacy. Eriksen was taken to the hospital and stabilised said a statement issued by UEFA.
The Danish Football Federation issued a statement that Eriksen was awake and undergoing further examinations at the hospital.
