Lam holds talks on COVID counter-measures, economic relief with Beijing

HONG KONG – Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam said on Friday that she held discussions with mainland Chinese officials on pandemic control and economic relief measures during her three-day trip to Beijing, adding that the central government has welcomed her proposals.

She told media persons in the Chinese capital that the government will extend support to Hong Kong’s competitiveness as well as tech innovation in the city.

Following the anti-government protests and the coronavirus crisis, the economy of the financial hub has been on a tailspin. Last month, Lam had to postpone her annual policy address ahead of her trip. She is slated to deliver the address on Nov. 25.
