South Yorkshire to be placed under highest COVID-19 lockdown tier

LONDON (UK) – In order to tackle the rising levels of the pandemic, a very high lockdown tier will be imposed on South Yorkshire on Saturday, said the mayor of Sheffield City Region Dan Jarvis on Wednesday.

A stimulus package of 41 million pounds will be given to businesses that will have to remain closed and for extra public health measures.

North of England has witnessed the surge of the second wave of the virus in several regions.

When it comes to the highest tier of curbs, South Yorkshire is joined by Liverpool and Lancashire. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he would impose similar curbs in Manchester after failing to reach a consensus regarding a support package with local leaders.
