PARIS (FRANCE) – As part of a probe into the beheading of a teacher Samuel Paty in the outskirts of Paris, police handed over seven more people, including two minors, to a judge, said an official from the anti-terrorist prosecutor’s office on Wednesday.
Paty was killed on Oct. 16 in broad daylight outside his school by a Chechen teenager, who was shot dead by the police.
Police say the 18-year-old targeted the teacher in retaliation for showing school children caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad, which Muslims consider blasphemous.
The decapitation shocked France and it echoed attacks on the office of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo five years ago after it published caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad. Public figures termed the killing an attack on the French Republic and values.
Sorbonne University will host a national tribute in honour of Paty on Wednesday.
